Churwalden is the gateway to the Lenzerheide holiday region and has formed one municipality with Malix and Parpan since 2010. The village is a sports resort all year round – with the cable cars into the ski area, the Pradaschier toboggan run and a heated open-air pool.
Malix lies a little lower, at around 1,100 m, and is the village closest to Chur – quiet, rural and with excursion destinations such as the Strassberg castle ruins and the Dreibündenstein. In Churwalden the monastery church of St. Maria and Michael is worth a visit.

Churwalden and Malix are the first villages above Chur and thus the places in the region closest to the city: about a quarter of an hour to Chur railway station, and yet with a cable car into the ski area, the Pradaschier toboggan run and the heated open-air pool on the doorstep. That makes the two villages a home for people who work in Chur and want to live in the mountains.
The market reflects this: detached houses, primary residences and year-round rental apartments play a bigger role here than in Lenzerheide, plus holiday apartments around the valley station. Those looking for a long-term rental or a house with a garden are more likely to find something in Churwalden and Malix than further up – and at prices that still leave room.
